The Adult Education Center at the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton offers free classes to prepare adults in Conway and Perry Counties to earn a GED. ESL classes are also offered free of charge for anyone at least 18 years of age. For more information, call 215-4904.

Pope County Better Together 4-H Club is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser through October 11th to raise funds for club activities involving community service projects. The Better Together 4-H Club will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at the Pope County Extension Services’ office. 

The deadline to register for the Morrilton Parks and Recreation Departments' youth basketball league is Wednesday (10/18/17). The league is open to girls and boys in grades 3-6. Registration is $50 for one child, $90 for two children or $120 for three children in the same family. You can register at the Community Center in Morrilton. The University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton Office of Workforce and Community Education is offering a Microsoft Excel Intermediate class from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursdays from October 26th-December 14th. The Wives of Armor and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #54 are hosting a River Valley Appreciation Day for our local community and officers! Come out on October 20, 2017 at the Downtown Depot, between 5:30 and 8 PM. The event will have live music from Whiskey Business, bump and jumps, hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks, games, and other items. Also, it's FREE!! This is an outdoors event. Please bring camping chairs or blankets to sit on to listen to the band. 

Hope in the Valley, a romantic evening for couples, will be held Friday, October 20th from 6-8 PM on the banks of Lake Dardanelle State Park. Walk a path of luminaries as you experience cuisine from the area’s best restaurants amid festive lights, live music, dancing, giveaways, and more. High school students and others interested in learning more about Arkansas Tech University are invited to the 21st annual Tech Open House on Saturday, Oct. 21. The event, which is hosted by the Office of Admissions, is taking place at Tucker Coliseum from 10 a.m. to noon and includes tours of campus and the opportunity to visit with representatives from each degree program at Tech. Additionally, personnel from several campus departments will be on hand to assist with students. Campus departments represented include: Academic Advising, Admissions, Financial Aid, Residence Life, and University Honors. Current ATU students wanting information about potential majors are also invited to take part. Prospective students attending the open house will receive free tickets to attend the Homecoming football game between Arkansas Tech and Northwestern Oklahoma State University at 2 p.m. at Thone Stadium at Buerkle Field. The Tech Open House door prize will be a fall 2018 tuition scholarship to Arkansas Tech. The scholarship winner will be announced during the Tech-NWOSU game. The Russellville Rogers Rye VFW Post #2283 with VFW Riders Group Unit 12 will be hosting a Toy Run for the Pope County Foster Care Program on Saturday, October 21st. Donate to help and support local kiddos! Staging will start at 10:30 AM at VFW #2283, in order of arrival, and the parade will end at the Pope County Fairgrounds. All street legal modes of transportation are welcome to participate and chili and fixins’, with dessert, will be provided. Please donate new, unwrapped toys – but please, no toy weapons – and monetary donations are accepted. St. John's Lutheran Church in Russellville will host their 23rd annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 21! There will be German food incluing Bratwurst, Grilled Chicken Breast, Sauerkraut, German Potato Salad, Hot German Rice, Green Beans, Slaw, Hot Dogs, Chips, Drinks, and Homemade Desserts. The Rockin' the Runway Hurricane Benefit Concert will be held Saturday, October 21st at Hangar 1 of the Russellville Airport. There will be a concert with music by The Beards and the Bees, Jason Campbell, and The Downhill Runners. There will be a silent auction for a ride in the Survival Flight Helicopter, a 30-minute discovery flight with a certified flight instructor, and a 50/50 raffle! The 26th annual Russellville Downtown Fall Festival & Chili Cookoff is a fun-filled street festival held each year on the last Saturday in October.
